Performance and Companion Dogs
Maple Hills Kennel is a small kennel located in Luck Wisconsin, owned by Dan and Leslie Boerboon. We have only 2 breeds, Golden Retrievers and Rat Terriers. Our dogs are from working stock and continue to train for, compete in, and perform the jobs that they have been bred to do. Although the conformation ring has created some beautiful animals, it is our belief that the true joy of dog ownership comes from the relationship that you have with your pet – not from how pretty the dog is.
Our Golden Retrievers come from field lines and you will find that they do not have the big, fluffy, blonde appearance that is so prevalent in show lines. Performance dogs are bred because they have the form to accomplish their job, the drive to accomplish their job, the brains to learn their job, and the desire to work with people to accomplish their job.
Our Rat Terriers are AKC Foundation Stock and we are involved in the Rat Terrier Club of American in the process of getting official recognition for the breed. The Rat Terrier is a truly American Breed and was created by farmers to help control barn rats and other pests. The actual job of rat catcher is in short supply but the elements of the job of catching rats and mice can be found in the sport of Agility. Dogs must be bright, quick, extremely agile, and think on their feet. Of course, they have to work closely with their handler to successfully navigate the course.
